New Delhi, September 2 (TNA) Gold prices in India declined on Wednesday, after recent volatility in the bullion market, with 24-carat gold trading near ₹1.52 lakh per 10 grams in major cities. The rate of 22-carat gold, commonly used in jewellery, was around ₹1.44 lakh per 10 grams, though retail prices differed across cities due to local levies, transportation costs and jewellers’ margins.

In Delhi, 24-carat gold was quoted at ₹1,54,240 per 10 grams, down ₹2,680 from the previous day, while 22-carat gold was priced at ₹1,41,400 per 10 grams, lower by ₹2,450. In Mumbai, 24-carat gold was quoted around ₹1,50,900 per 10 grams, compared with ₹1,52,870 a day earlier, a decline of 1.29%.  Gold prices in the financial capital differ from Delhi because retail rates vary with city-specific charges and market conditions.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures were quoted around ₹1,52,493 per 10 grams, down about 1.20%, reflecting pressure from international bullion trends and profit-booking after higher levels.

Despite the day’s fall, gold remains near historically elevated levels. Prices have been influenced by international uncertainty, changes in the US dollar, interest-rate expectations, central-bank buying and movement in crude oil prices. Domestic rates are also shaped by the rupee’s movement against the dollar, import costs, duties and local physical demand.

Jewellers said consumers buying ornaments should remember that the displayed gold rate does not include making charges, GST and, in some cases, additional store-level charges. Buyers are advised to check the purity hallmark, obtain a detailed invoice and compare the final per-gram rate before making a purchase.

The market is expected to remain sensitive to global economic signals, overseas gold prices and currency movements in the days ahead.
