New Delhi, September 30 (TNA) Apple has launched its Apple Pay service in India in partnership with Axis Bank, marking the company’s entry into one of the world’s largest digital payments markets. The service is initially available to customers holding eligible Axis Bank credit cards on the Visa and Mastercard networks. RuPay cards and cards issued by other banks are not supported at launch.
Payments Through Apple Devices
Users can add eligible Axis Bank cards through the Apple Wallet or Axis Bank mobile application and make payments using an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Mac support is expected to be added later. Apple Pay can be used for contactless payments at supported point-of-sale terminals, as well as for purchases in apps and on websites. Customers can authenticate transactions through Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode, without entering their card details at checkout.
Accepted at Thousands of Merchants
At launch, Apple Pay will be available at thousands of stores and online merchants across India, including Apple Store locations, Blinkit, Croma, Ixigo, Reliance brands, Tata 1mg and Zomato. It can also be used at NFC-enabled terminals where the service is accepted. The launch gives Axis Bank’s eligible credit-card customers an additional contactless payment option. Apple is expected to expand support to more banks and card networks over time.
