Mumbai, September 9 (TNA) Bollywood action star Akshay Kumar is celebrating his 59th birthday today, with close family and a flood of wishes from fans and industry colleagues as he gears up for the release of his upcoming thriller Haiwaan this Friday.
Born Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on September 9, 1967, in Amritsar, Punjab, Akshay began his career as a martial arts instructor and stuntman before making his film debut in the late 1980s. Over nearly four decades, he has built a reputation as one of Hindi cinema’s most disciplined and versatile performers, known for action franchises like Khiladi and Rowdy Rathore, comedies such as the Housefull series and Hera Pheri, and socially driven films including Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Pad Man and Mission Mangal.
On his birthday, several co-stars and directors took to social media to wish the actor, praising his work ethic and fitness regime even at 59. Media reports said Akshay is spending the day with his wife Twinkle Khanna and their two children at their sea-facing Juhu home, which has been in the spotlight this week for its blend of modern design and a historic connection to Mahatma Gandhi’s era.
The birthday comes just days before the worldwide theatrical release of Haiwaan, a crime thriller directed by Priyadarshan and co-starring Saif Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Sharib Hashmi, Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar. The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared the film with a U/A 16+ certificate, and it is scheduled to hit cinemas on September 11, 2026, with a runtime of about 2 hours 44 minutes.
Akshay’s upcoming slate also includes the sci‑fi action film Samuk, directed by Kanishk Varma and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, which is currently being shot in the UK and is expected to arrive in theatres in 2027.
