Lucknow, October 14 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has achieved another significant milestone towards the construction of the East-West Corridor (Phase-1B) of Lucknow Metro. Afcons Infrastructure has emerged as the lowest bidder with a bid of ₹1,632 crore, including GST, for the design and construction of the approximately 6.52-km underground section from Charbagh Metro Station to Chowk Metro Station.

A total of five companies participated in the tender process. These included Afcons Infrastructure, Sam India Projects, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Construction Company and Tata Projects. The financial bid was opened on 5 October 2026, and the stipulated completion period for the work is 3 years from LOA.

The scope of work includes the construction of seven underground metro stations along with associated civil works. This section will pass through densely populated areas and will form a crucial part of the underground section of Phase-1B.

UPMRC has already awarded tenders for the construction of five elevated metro station viaducts and Vasant Kunj Metro Depot under the East-West Corridor. UPMRC is constructing Lucknow Metro Phase-1B (East-West Corridor) at an estimated cost of approximately ₹5,801 crore.

The project will comprise a total of 12 metro stations - five elevated and seven underground. Construction of both the elevated and underground sections will progress simultaneously, enabling metro services to commence across the entire corridor within the stipulated timeline.

MD, UPMRC, Sushil Kumar said: "The East-West Corridor will play a transformative role in strengthening connectivity between Old and New Lucknow. The extension from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj will bring fast, safe and environment-friendly public transport closer to the densely populated and historic areas of Old Lucknow".

Beyond improving mobility, the project will also catalyse significant infrastructural development in Old Lucknow, creating better connectivity and supporting the overall urban transformation of the area. This corridor will help reduce pressure on road traffic while giving a strong impetus to sustainable and integrated urban development in Lucknow," he further added.
