New Delhi, September 15 (TNA) More than 200 SpiceJet passengers staged protests at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after two Dubai-bound flights were repeatedly rescheduled and delayed for more than 24 hours.
The affected flights-SG 5111 and SG 5105-were scheduled to depart on Monday morning and evening, respectively. However, both flights faced prolonged delays, leaving passengers stranded at Terminal 3 and seeking information about their departure schedules.
Passengers staged sit-ins inside the terminal and demanded clarity from the airline, along with food and accommodation. Videos from the airport showed travellers sitting on the floor while waiting for updates. Airport and Delhi International Airport Limited staff reportedly provided food, water and a place for passengers to rest.
Airline Cites Aircraft Grounding
SpiceJet attributed the disruption to operational problems following the grounding of an aircraft. The airline apologised to the affected passengers and said it was arranging alternative flights to accommodate them.
One of the flights had remained delayed for more than 24 hours, while the second flight, originally scheduled to depart at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, was rescheduled to noon on Tuesday. Passengers said they had not received timely or clear updates about the revised departure plans.
Airport officials have taken up the matter with SpiceJet executives. The airline said it was making every effort to minimise the inconvenience and arrange alternate travel for the stranded passengers.
