New Delhi, November 4 (TNA) A controversy has erupted after All India Students’ Association president Neha Bora alleged in a video that women face sexual violence inside temples and require protection from what she described as the “Brahmanical system.”

Bora referred to cases such as Unnao and Kathua while making the remarks. The video, described in some reports as undated, was circulated widely on social media and drew sharp criticism from political leaders and users.

Complaint Filed in Delhi

Supreme Court advocate Amita Sachdeva said she submitted a complaint on November 3 to the Station House Officer of the Sansad Marg Police Station in New Delhi. She also approached the Delhi Police cyber unit, seeking registration of a case against Bora and any others whose involvement may emerge during the investigation.

Sachdeva alleged that the statements made sweeping accusations against religious functionaries and could promote enmity between communities and disturb public tranquillity. She sought action under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with other applicable provisions.

Political Condemnation

BJP leaders condemned the remarks as inflammatory and accused Bora of promoting what they called an anti-Hindu narrative. The party demanded legal action and questioned whether such statements were intended to create social tension.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi described the comments as “deeply unfortunate” and said the issue reflected a problematic approach to public discourse. She urged a more constructive discussion on women’s safety and social reform rather than broad allegations against religious communities.

FIR Not Confirmed

Delhi Police had not publicly confirmed registration of an FIR as of the latest reports. The complaint is expected to be examined before police decide whether the allegations disclose a cognisable offence and whether further legal action is warranted.

The controversy has renewed debate over the limits of political and activist speech in India, particularly when criticism of social or religious systems is perceived as targeting an entire community. Bora’s response to the complaint and the police’s next step are awaited.
