New Delhi, August 29 (TNA) India has signed an agreement with the United States to procure Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems for the Indian Army, in a move that strengthens defence ties between the two countries. The deal was formalised through a Letter of Offer and Acceptance under the US Foreign Military Sales process.
According to reports, the contract is worth more than USD 45 million, or about Rs 292 crore, and covers over 100 missile systems along with launcher units and related equipment. The procurement has been routed through emergency powers to speed up delivery of the combat-proven weapon system.
The Javelin is a medium-range, man-portable, shoulder-launched missile designed to target tanks, armoured vehicles and bunkers. Reports said deliveries are expected to begin by the end of 2026-27.
The agreement is also expected to open the door for future collaboration between Indian and US defence industries, including possible local manufacturing in the coming years.
