New Delhi, September 5 (TNA) Passengers travelling on the Gwalior–Bhopal–Delhi and Katni–Bhopal–Delhi routes face major disruptions for the next six weeks, with Indian Railways cancelling and partially rerouting several trains to facilitate third-line and yard-remodelling work between Bina and Agasod stations in Madhya Pradesh.
The block, being executed by West Central Railway, will affect train operations from September 20 to October 15–16, 2026, and is expected to impact more than 40 services, including key intercity, MEMU and long-distance expresses
Why the disruption is happening
The work is part of a capacity-augmentation project on the Bina–Agasoud section, a critical link on the Delhi–Bhopal–Chennai and Delhi–Jabalpur–Howrah corridors. To integrate the new third line and remodel the yards at Bina and Agasoud, Railways has imposed a power and traffic block that requires cancellation, short-termination and diversion of multiple trains to ensure safe operations.
Trains cancelled and partially affected
Among the services fully cancelled during the block period are:
• Bhopal–Gwalior Intercity (12197) and Gwalior–Bhopal Intercity (12198): Cancelled from October 1 to October 15, affecting 15 trips each way.
• Bina–Katni Murwara MEMU (61619) and Katni Murwara–Bina MEMU (61620): Cancelled on September 21 and from September 28 to October 15, with 19 trips each affected.
• Santlptpur–Bina MEMU (64618): Cancelled from September 20 to October 15, covering 26 trips.
Several long-distance trains have also been short-terminated, short-originated or diverted. For instance:
• Katni–Bina MEMU (11602) will terminate at Khurai instead of Bina from September 29 to October 15, while Bina–Katni MEMU (11601) will originate from Khurai from September 30 to October 16.
• New Delhi–Rani Kamalapati Shatabdi is scheduled to be short-terminated at Santalpur instead of Rani Kamalapati on October 15.
• Passenger services such as Gwalior–Bina (51884), Bina–Damoh (51885), Damoh–Bina (51886) and Bina–Gwalior (51883) will be extended or originated/terminated at Malkhedi, bypassing Bina station through a flyover between September 20 and October 16.
• Nagda–Bina (19341) and Bina–Nagda (19342) will be extended to/from Katni Murwara and will also bypass Bina via the flyover.
In addition, key expresses like the Jabalpur–Hazrat Nizamuddin Shridham Express, SMVT Bengaluru–Gwalior Express, Rani Kamlapati–Santragachi Humsafar, Bhopal–Damoh Rajya Rani and Bhopal–Khajuraho Mahamana face cancellations or partial disruptions on specified dates between late September and mid-October.
Impact on Gwalior, Bhopal and Delhi travellers
For passengers on the Gwalior–Bhopal–Delhi route, the cancellation of the Bhopal–Gwalior Intercity and changes to several passenger and MEMU services will mean fewer daily options and possible crowding on alternative trains. Those travelling between Bhopal, Katni, Jabalpur and Delhi may encounter short-terminations, changed origins/destinations and altered routes that skip Bina or use alternate lines via Guna, Maksi and Gwalior.
Railways have advised passengers to check the latest running status, cancellation and diversion notices on the IRCTC website, NTES app and at railway stations before planning their journeys, as the schedule of affected trains varies by date and direction.
Expected duration and advisory
The yard-remodelling and third-line integration work is scheduled to continue till around October 15–16, 2026, after which normal train operations on the Bina–Agasoud section are expected to resume. Until then, travellers on the Gwalior, Bhopal, Katni and Delhi routes should anticipate cancellations, partial rerouting and possible delays, and are encouraged to book flexible tickets or consider alternate travel dates where possible.
