Jammu, September 29 (TNA) Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, were killed after a fellow jawan allegedly opened fire at them at a camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The incident took place at the Sewa-II Hydroelectric Power Project in the Basohli area, where CISF personnel were deployed for security duties. According to preliminary information, an argument broke out among the personnel at around 7 pm, following which a 2009-batch CISF Head Constable allegedly opened fire on his colleagues.
The four personnel initially sustained serious bullet injuries and later succumbed to their injuries. The deceased included an officer and three other CISF personnel. The accused jawan was taken into custody and handed over to Kathua Police, which has begun an investigation into the incident. Senior CISF officials also reached the site.
The firing is being treated as a suspected fratricide incident. The exact reason for the altercation and the circumstances that led to the shooting have not yet been established.
The CISF has ordered an internal inquiry, or court of inquiry, to determine the sequence of events and examine the circumstances leading to the firing. The CISF headquarters is monitoring the investigation.
