New Delhi, September 1 (TNA) Delhi’s swine flu, or H1N1, cases continue to rise, with 48 new infections reported on August 30, taking this year’s total to 3,629, according to the health department’s latest report.

Of the total cases, 3,054 were from Delhi, and 575 were from outside the city. The combined count of influenza A and B cases has also climbed to 5,029. Health experts have advised people not to panic, but to remain alert. They said those with a common cold, mild fever or similar symptoms should avoid unnecessary hospital visits.

Symptoms to watch

Common swine flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, headache, runny nose, body aches, fatigue and weakness. Some patients may also develop chills, watery eyes and general malaise.

Warning signs that need urgent medical attention include breathlessness, falling oxygen levels, chest discomfort, confusion, persistent high fever and worsening weakness.

How to take care

People with mild symptoms should rest at home, drink enough fluids and monitor their condition closely. They should avoid close contact with others, especially older adults, young children, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses.

Doctors also advise regular handwashing, covering the mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, wearing a mask in crowded or poorly ventilated places, and avoiding touching the eyes, nose and mouth unnecessarily.

People should seek medical advice early if symptoms persist or worsen, rather than self-medicating or delaying treatment. In some cases, doctors may recommend antiviral treatment early in the illness.
