New Delhi, September 12 (TNA) In view of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit being held at Bharat Mandapam (Pragati Maidan) in New Delhi, Delhi Police on Friday issued a special traffic advisory for Saturday, September 12, 2026, regulating vehicular movement across large parts of the national capital from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm.
The advisory comes as heads of state and high-level delegations from BRICS and partner countries arrive in the city for the two-day summit, which runs from September 11 to 13, 2026. Security agencies have designated the area around Bharat Mandapam as a “prohibited area” for general traffic during key hours, while several arterial roads in Central Delhi, New Delhi and Lutyens’ zone have been marked as “controlled roads” with restricted access.
Roads under restrictions and diversions
According to the Delhi Traffic Police advisory, traffic restrictions will particularly affect roads around the Bharat Mandapam/Pragati Maidan complex, with regulated movement extending to major corridors connecting Central Delhi with North, South, East and West Delhi.
Key routes where restrictions, diversions or regulated movement will be in force on September 12 include:
• Ring Road (selected stretches)
• Mathura Road
• Bhairon Marg
• Tilak Marg
• India Gate / C-Hexagon area
• Sardar Patel Marg
• Patel Road
• National Highway 48 (NH-48)
• Parade Road
• Several roads in Lutyens’ Delhi, including stretches along Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, and adjoining VIP routes.
Additional intersections and corridors flagged in traffic plans include Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, Mir Dard Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Janpath/Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Moti Bagh Flyover, Lodhi Road–Rahman Marg, Neela Gumbad and Mandi House.
Other roads that may see temporary stoppages or diversions at different times include Tees January Marg, Satya Marg, Prithvi Raj Road, Firoze Shah Road, Ashoka Road, Tughlak Road, Panchsheel Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Africa Avenue, Brig. Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Shanti Path, Sher Shah Suri Marg, San Martin Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Kautilya Marg, Bhagwan Das Road and Kemal Ataturk Marg.

Delhi Police has clarified that the entire city will not be shut down during the summit; restrictions will apply only to notified controlled areas and VIP movement routes. However, commuters should expect temporary traffic stoppages, diversions and route closures linked to the movement of foreign delegations and VVIP convoys between September 10 and around September 14, depending on security requirements.
Authorities have urged residents and visitors to:
• Plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time
• Use Delhi Metro wherever possible
• Follow designated diversion routes and instructions by traffic personnel on the ground
• Avoid non-essential travel through Central Delhi and the Bharat Mandapam vicinity during peak summit hours.
