New Delhi, October 1 (TNA) Consumers and businesses are set to face higher operating costs from October 1, as state-owned oil marketing companies increased the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by around ₹16 per litre and raised the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹62.59.
The revisions were announced in line with firm international energy benchmarks. ATF for domestic airlines has increased from around ₹121 to ₹137 per litre.
Commercial LPG Cylinder Gets Costlier
The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has also gone up by ₹62.59. In Delhi, the revised price has reportedly reached approximately ₹2,810 per cylinder. The hike will directly affect restaurants, hotels, eateries, caterers and other commercial establishments that use LPG for cooking. Businesses may pass on the increased input cost through higher prices for food and services.
The latest increase follows a ₹9.50-per-cylinder rise in September. Commercial LPG prices had earlier declined sharply in July and August before rising again last month.
Air Travel May Become Costlier
The sharp rise in ATF prices is likely to increase the operating costs of domestic airlines. Fuel is one of the largest expenses for carriers, and airlines may respond by adjusting fares, fuel surcharges or other charges, although the impact will depend on route demand, competition and fuel-hedging arrangements. The ATF revision follows an increase of ₹6.28 per litre in September, making the latest monthly increase substantially higher.
Domestic LPG, Petrol and Diesel Unchanged
The price revision does not affect domestic LPG cylinders used by households. Petrol and diesel prices have also remained unchanged in the latest monthly review. The changes will therefore be felt mainly by airlines and commercial users of LPG rather than households using subsidised or regular domestic cooking-gas cylinders.
