Guwahati, September 16 (TNA) Assam’s railway network has achieved 100% electrification, marking the completion of the state’s railway electrification journey. The milestone was achieved with the electrification of the challenging 169-km Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section.
With this, the entire Broad-Gauge railway network in the state, covering 2,589 route kms, has now been electrified. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the achievement as a “big milestone” for the state, saying that it would make railway movement across the state greener and more environment-friendly.
Overall, the move is expected to improve sectional capacity and reduce the operating and maintenance costs of electric locomotives. Now, trains can operate on electric traction across the state without the need for traction change at relevant points. This can help streamline operations and improve the utilisation of electric locomotives.
