New Delhi/Thimphu, September 14 (TNA) Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar has commenced a three-day official visit to the Kingdom of Bhutan from September 14 to 16, aimed at deepening institutional cooperation between the election management bodies of both nations.
The visit is designed to build on the long-standing engagement between the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB), focusing on democratic practices, knowledge sharing, and election management.
On the first day of his visit on Monday, Kumar called on His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, in the capital city of Thimphu. The interaction highlighted the special and enduring bilateral ties between India and Bhutan, underscored by continuous institutional exchanges in governance and capacity building.
Chief Guest at National Voters’ Day in Paro
A central highlight of the CEC’s itinerary will take place on Tuesday, September 15, when Gyanesh Kumar attends Bhutan’s National Voters’ Day celebrations as the Chief Guest. The event, hosted at the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law in Paro, will focus on voter awareness, youth participation, and institutional mechanisms for strengthening democratic values.
On the concluding day of the tour, September 16, the Chief Election Commissioner will call on the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dasho Tshering Tobgay, in Thimphu. During the day, Kumar will also interact with senior Bhutanese civil servants to exchange insights on modern electoral administration, logistical management, and voter engagement strategies.
