Sen controlled the opening game with aggressive rallies and precise attacking shots. Although Christie attempted to challenge the Indian with his net play and court coverage, Sen maintained his composure during the crucial stages to take the game 21–17.
The Indian then raised the intensity in the second game. He quickly built a substantial lead, forcing Christie into errors and preventing the Indonesian from settling into his rhythm. Sen closed out the match 21–10.
The Hylo Open triumph ended Sen’s year-long wait for a tournament title. It also capped a strong week in Saarbrücken, where he defeated France’s Toma Junior Popov 21–17, 21–13 in the semifinal. Sen had entered the final after a period of inconsistent results, making the victory an important confidence boost ahead of the remainder of the international season.
Sen’s victory came on a successful day for Indian badminton. Earlier, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu won the women’s singles title after defeating Denmark’s Line Kjærsfeldt 21–12, 21–14.
The double triumph gave India both singles titles at the Hylo Open Super 500 tournament in Germany.
