Bareilly, September 15 (TNA) Police arrested three alleged criminals following an encounter on Bharatole Road in the Baradari police station area of Bareilly, officials said.
According to the police, one of the suspects was wanted in connection with the snatching of a woman’s earrings. The operation took place during a police checking drive on the road when the suspects allegedly came under suspicion.
Police said the suspects attempted to flee and opened fire, prompting the officers to retaliate. The accused were subsequently arrested, although further details about any injuries were not immediately available.
The police reportedly recovered:
• Two pistols.
• Two earrings allegedly linked to the snatching incident.
• One motorcycle believed to have been used in the crime.
The arrested suspects are being questioned to determine whether they were involved in other snatching and robbery cases in the area.
Police are also verifying the ownership of the recovered motorcycle and the exact circumstances surrounding the encounter.
The arrests come amid continued police action against alleged street criminals targeting pedestrians and motorists in Bareilly. A previous Bareilly case involving an alleged earring snatcher also resulted in the recovery of a weapon, jewellery and a motorcycle, according to local reports.
