Prayagraj, September 23 (TNA) Professor Sangita Srivastava has been reappointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Allahabad for a second term. The official appointment order was issued by the Union Ministry of Education following approval from President Droupadi Murmu, the Visitor of the central university.
The new term will be effective from September 16, 2026, and will continue for five years or until Professor Srivastava reaches the age of 70, whichever is earlier. The order was issued by the Department of Higher Education on September 22.
Professor Srivastava’s reappointment is being described as a first in the history of Allahabad University, which is popularly known as the “Oxford of the East.” She will continue to lead the institution for another term after completing her first tenure as Vice-Chancellor.
The appointment order states that her service conditions will remain governed by the University of Allahabad Act, statutes and ordinances. Copies of the order have been sent to the University Grants Commission, the Association of Indian Universities, the President’s Secretariat and the university administration.
The reappointment ends speculation over the university’s next Vice-Chancellor and is expected to provide administrative continuity. It also comes at a time when the university is undertaking institutional and academic initiatives under its existing leadership.
