Lucknow, September 7 (TNA) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati is reportedly preparing to expel her nephew Akash Anand from the party, a move that would mark the latest twist in his turbulent political trajectory within the organisation. According to party sources, Mayawati has directed all her office-bearers to unfollow Akash Anand and his father-in-law, former Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Siddharth, on social media platforms, signalling a clear distancing from the duo.
The development comes just days after Mayawati removed Akash from the post of chief national coordinator and said he “requires further maturity” before being entrusted with major responsibilities. In the aftermath, Akash has repeatedly changed his X (formerly Twitter) bio-first from “national coordinator” to “BSP worker”, and then to “BSP supporter” - a shift that party insiders are reading as a sign that his exit may be imminent.
Mayawati has cited Ashok Siddharth's influence over Akash as a key reason for action against him. In March 2025, she had stripped Akash of all posts and expelled him from the party, alleging that Siddharth was exerting excessive influence and building a parallel network within the BSP. Akash was later reinstated after a public apology in which he called Mayawati his “sole political guru” and promised not to let personal relationships or in-laws affect his political work.
The latest round of organisational changes has also seen Akash’s younger brother, Ishaan Anand, handed a key responsibility as chief sector in-charge, with the task of reviewing party work in about 15 states. Party cadres, already anxious over repeated leadership reshuffles, are now watching closely to see whether Mayawati follows through with a formal expulsion before the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
As of now, the BSP has not issued an official statement confirming Akash Anand’s expulsion, but the social media instructions to office-bearers and the change in his bio have intensified speculation that his second exit from the party may be only a matter of time.
