Lucknow, September 23 (TNA) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati has appointed her younger nephew, Ishan Anand, as the party’s national coordinator, signalling a major organisational change ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
The decision was announced at a meeting of BSP national office-bearers at the party headquarters in Lucknow on Wednesday. The meeting focused on strengthening the party organisation and reviewing preparations for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.
Ishan Anand’s appointment comes days after Mayawati removed his elder brother, Akash Anand, from a key organisational position. Akash had earlier served as the BSP’s chief national coordinator.
According to party sources, Ishan will review the BSP’s organisational work across several states and submit reports to his father, Anand Kumar, who is the party’s national vice-president. He is expected to visit the states assigned to him and assess the party’s preparedness at the grassroots level.
Mayawati had recently said that only Ishan Anand from her brother Anand Kumar’s family would be given a formal responsibility in the party. She also indicated that Akash Anand and his sister Deepika would remain away from organisational posts.
The latest appointment is being viewed as part of Mayawati’s effort to restructure the BSP and prepare it for the next round of Assembly elections. The party is seeking to strengthen its organisation and regain political ground in Uttar Pradesh.
