Lucknow, October 31 (TNA) Lucknow has been receiving intermittent rain for nearly 40 hours as the impact of Cyclone Arnab and an associated western disturbance continues to affect Uttar Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department has warned of further spells of heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in the state.
The prolonged rainfall has disrupted normal life in the city. Waterlogging has been reported in several low-lying areas, while traffic movement has slowed on major roads. Overcast skies and persistent showers have also brought down daytime temperatures across the capital.
Cyclone’s Impact
According to weather officials, Cyclone Arnab is influencing weather conditions across eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Terai region and parts of central Uttar Pradesh. The department had forecast unseasonal rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several districts between October 28 and 31.
Lucknow and neighbouring areas are expected to receive light to moderate rain, with isolated spells of intense rainfall. Gusty winds of up to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour have also been forecast in parts of the state.
Heavy Rain Warning
The weather department has issued alerts for eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions. Some districts could experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, with wind speeds potentially reaching 40 to 80 kilometres per hour.[
Residents have been advised to avoid open areas, trees and poorly constructed structures during thunderstorms. Farmers and outdoor workers have also been asked to remain indoors during lightning activity.
Administration on Alert
The Uttar Pradesh government has directed officials to strengthen relief and preparedness measures in rain-affected areas. Authorities have been asked to monitor waterlogging, drainage, electricity supply and traffic conditions.
Municipal teams have deployed water pumps in vulnerable locations to clear accumulated rainwater. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official weather warnings.
Temperatures Likely to Fall
Rain and cloud cover are expected to bring a significant drop in daytime temperatures across Lucknow and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. Weather forecasts indicate that temperatures in some areas could fall by 5 to 8 degrees Celsius.
The IMD said rainfall intensity may fluctuate over the next 24 hours. Residents have been urged to stay away from flooded roads, open drains and areas experiencing strong water currents.
