Lucknow, October 29, 2026 (TNA) All government, aided and self-financed recognised schools in Lucknow district will remain closed on Friday, October 30, according to an order issued by the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), Lucknow. The one-day academic holiday applies to students of Classes 1 to 12 across all boards, from primary to intermediate level, in the district.
Reason for the closure
The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UPSSSC) is conducting the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2026 at 45 examination centres in Lucknow. The exam will be held in two shifts on October 25, October 30 and November 1, 2026.
Around 20,000 candidates are expected to appear in each shift. Many of them will be accompanied by guardians, and the authorities anticipate heavy crowding in the city. October 25 and November 1 are Sundays and already public holidays, but October 30 is a working Friday.
How the decision was made
According to the order, the UPSSSC Secretary informed the DIOS by letter dated October 7, 2026, that the commission was following a Uttar Pradesh government order issued on October 1, 2026. Under that order, a one-day academic holiday is to be declared in districts where exam centres are located.
The District Magistrate of Lucknow approved the holiday on October 28, 2026. The DIOS issued the formal directive the following day, instructing all principals and managers of schools in the district to ensure strict compliance.
