Four Killed as Ambulance Carrying Martyr’s Body Crashes on Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur

Sultanpur, October 4 (TNA) Four people were killed on Sunday morning after an ambulance carrying the mortal remains of an Army Subedar Major met with a road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district, police said. The crash took place near Haliyapur, close to the Ayodhya-Sultanpur border, at around 8 a.m.

According to preliminary information, the ambulance was transporting the body of Subedar Major Satyawan Singh from Chandigarh to his native place in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into a truck parked on the roadside near kilometre marker 79.6 of the expressway.

The deceased have been identified as the soldier’s son Gaurav Singh, his relative Rajan Singh, nephew Ram Samujh Singh and ambulance driver Jaspal Singh. All four occupants reportedly died in the impact.

The collision severely damaged the ambulance. Police and expressway personnel reached the spot and began rescue and legal procedures. The soldier’s mortal remains were taken to Haliyapur police station after the accident, reports said.

The exact circumstances leading to the ambulance losing control are being investigated. The Uttar Pradesh government expressed grief over the incident and directed officials to extend all possible assistance to the bereaved families.
