Lucknow, November 1 (TNA)  The Uttar Pradesh BJP has come under criticism after the name of Ram Surat Maurya, a leader from Ambedkar Nagar who died about a year ago, appeared in the party’s newly announced state Labour Cell committee.

The 11-member list was issued on Saturday under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary. Maurya’s inclusion as a committee member has raised questions about the process used to compile and verify the party’s organisational lists.

Party Admits Error

Ram Surat Maurya was a former BJP district president and a longtime party worker from Tanda in Ambedkar Nagar. Local BJP district president Dilip Dev Patel reportedly acknowledged that an error had occurred and said the matter had been brought to the state leadership’s notice.

A revised list is expected to be issued after the party reviews the names. It was not immediately clear whether the error resulted from the use of outdated records or a lapse during the compilation of the committee. The incident comes days after the BJP released its extensive Uttar Pradesh state working committee list. The list, issued by Chaudhary, included hundreds of office-bearers and members across different categories.

Opposition parties and political observers have alleged that the wider list contained several irregularities, including names of people who had reportedly joined other parties, deceased individuals and one name repeated multiple times. The allegations have not been independently verified by the BJP.

Questions have also emerged over the appointment of office-bearers in other BJP units. In Kanpur, the regional president reportedly announced two names independently after rejecting the state BJP president’s IT cell announcement, reflecting differences over the process of organisational appointments.

The BJP’s Awadh region women’s wing list was also withdrawn after objections were raised over the inclusion of certain names. A fresh list is expected to be announced after the party reviews and corrects the earlier version.

The series of incidents has intensified scrutiny of the party’s organisational restructuring under state president Pankaj Chaudhary and organisational general secretary Dharampal. Critics have described the errors as evidence of poor coordination and outdated data management within the state unit.

The BJP has yet to issue a detailed public explanation for the inclusion of Maurya’s name in the Labour Cell list. The revised lists and any disciplinary or administrative action will indicate how the party addresses the organisational lapses.
