Chandauli, September 21 (TNA) The Alinagar police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Ghazipur, have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 251.2 kg of ganja from a secret compartment inside a container in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district.
Acting on a tip-off, the joint team intercepted the suspicious container near the Kataria service lane in the Ramnagar industrial area. During a detailed search, officials found a concealed box built into the upper section of the vehicle’s cabin. Eight sacks containing 120 packets of ganja were recovered from the hidden compartment.
The seized contraband has been estimated to be worth around ₹1.25 crore in the international market. The container was also impounded by the police. The arrested accused has been identified as Bajrang Kumar Singh, a resident of Bokaro in Jharkhand. Police said they recovered a mobile phone, identity documents, an ATM card and ₹900 in cash from his possession.
During interrogation, Singh allegedly told investigators that the consignment had been handed over to him by a man identified as Mantu Singh, also from Bokaro, for delivery in the Ramnagar area. Police are now investigating the wider smuggling network and searching for other people allegedly involved in the operation
The Alinagar police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway.
