Washington, September (TNA) US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he was weighing two options in dealing with Iran: reaching an agreement or “annihilating” the Islamic Republic.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said he had a “big decision to make” regarding Iran. He suggested that Washington could allow Tehran to rebuild through a negotiated settlement or launch further military action against the country.
Trump also indicated that he expected the United States and Iran to reach an agreement after the US midterm elections, scheduled for November 3. He claimed that Iranian leaders were waiting to see how his Republican Party performs in the elections before deciding whether to negotiate.
“I believe we’ll make a deal right after the election because it doesn’t make sense for them not to,” Trump said during his address. The US president did not provide details of a possible agreement or specify what conditions Iran would have to meet. He reiterated that Tehran would not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon, while presenting the issue as a choice between diplomacy and military escalation.
Trump’s remarks came amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran and heightened uncertainty over the future of the conflict. His comments are likely to intensify concerns about regional security and the possibility of further escalation in the Middle East.
