Washington, September 28 (TNA) US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restarting negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear programme. Trump told reporters at the White House that Iran had made a proposal, but he had rejected it.
Under the reported proposal, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened within seven days, while the United States would lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, ease sanctions on Iranian oil sales and agree to a broader regional ceasefire. Talks on Iran’s nuclear programme would then resume.
Iran reportedly conveyed the initiative to the United States through Qatari mediators during the UN General Assembly in New York. Tehran’s proposal also sought the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets, according to reports.
