Islamabad, September 24 (TNA) Pakistan has tightened security in Islamabad ahead of a planned September 27 march by supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Pakistani authorities have blocked major highways with shipping containers and deployed thousands of security personnel.
Three of Khan’s sisters and hundreds of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists have been detained in recent days, with authorities citing public-order concerns. Two major highways linking Islamabad with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also been closed.
The security measures come amid growing public concerns over inflation and rising fuel prices. Khan’s 2023 arrest triggered nationwide unrest and clashes between protesters and security forces.
