Cairo, September 2 (TNA) At least 16 people were killed and 28 others injured after a passenger bus overturned on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in Egypt’s South Sinai governorate on Wednesday, the Egyptian Health Ministry said. Ten Jordanian nationals were among those killed, according to Jordanian state television.
The accident occurred near the Al-Saada area on the route connecting the Red Sea resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, a tourist region on Sinai’s eastern coast. The bus was carrying 43 passengers, including 22 Jordanians, Jordan’s official Al-Mamlaka channel reported.
Egyptian authorities dispatched 20 ambulances to the crash site. Medical personnel provided first aid at the scene before shifting the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. The cause of the accident was not immediately known, and authorities said an investigation was underway.
Initial reports had put the death toll at 16, though later reports citing Egypt’s Health Ministry said at least 21 people had been killed. Authorities had not immediately clarified the discrepancy.
