Lucknow, September 14 (TNA) The Lucknow Police has registered an FIR against Mohammed Kaif, the brother of Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami, following allegations by a woman of sexual exploitation under the false promise of marriage. An FIR has also named Kaif’s elder brother, Mohammed Haseeb, for allegedly threatening the complainant.

The case was registered at the Ashiyana police station after the woman’s complaint gained traction on social media, prompting swift police intervention. According to the complainant, she first met Kaif in 2020 through a mutual friend while residing in Ghaziabad. The acquaintance turned into a friendship over time, with frequent meetings following. In August 2023, Kaif allegedly proposed marriage to her. The woman stated that she was a divorcee with a son, to which the accused did not object at the time.

The complainant alleged that on September 9, 2023, Kaif called her to a hotel in Kolkata, where he established physical relations with her on the assurance of marriage. When she subsequently brought up wedding plans, she was reportedly assured that they would marry following the Indian Premier League auction in December 2025.

Between 2023 and 2026, the woman worked as an airline cabin crew member. She alleged that Kaif disapproved of her profession and pressured her into quitting her job. Following the IPL auction, when she pressed for marriage again, Kaif allegedly began distancing himself from her.

The complainant further stated that when she approached Kaif’s elder brother, Mohammed Haseeb, regarding the matter, she was asked to travel to Amroha for a discussion. During the meeting, Haseeb allegedly threatened her. The woman claimed she informed Kaif about the intimidation, but no resolution followed.

The woman initially submitted a complaint at the Aashiyana police station on August 31. After alleging inaction, she approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) on September 5. On the DCP’s direction, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Vibhuti Khand) conducted a preliminary inquiry. Since the matter did not fall under the territorial jurisdiction of Vibhuti Khand, the complainant was directed back to the Ashiyana police station.

Following the inquiry, the Aashiyana police registered a formal FIR invoking relevant sections of law regarding sexual exploitation against Kaif and criminal intimidation against Mohammed Haseeb.

The police have launched a formal investigation into the case.
