Lucknow, September 5 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) on Saturday celebrated the 9th Metro Day, marking the completion of nine glorious years of Lucknow Metro’s successful operations. Since its commencement in 2017, Lucknow Metro has established itself as a safe, fast, convenient and environment-friendly mode of public transport, becoming an important part of the city’s urban mobility network.
A grand programme was organised at Hazratganj Metro Station on the occasion of the 9th Metro Day. UPMRC employees who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their respective fields were felicitated with the MD’s Medal Awards. The 15 croreth passenger of Lucknow Metro, along with the top GoSmart Card users, was also honoured during the ceremony. The programme also featured a cultural performance by school students.
The programme began with the viewing of an exhibition of photographs captured by photographers during the Photo Walk organised on the occasion of World Photography Day. UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar visited the exhibition and appreciated the efforts of photographers who captured the beauty and heritage of Lucknow along with the metro travel experience through their photographs.
Taj Mahal (TJML) Metro Station of Agra Metro was conferred the Best Kept Metro Station Award.
Marking the achievement of 15 crore passenger journeys on Lucknow Metro, Himanshi Kashyap was felicitated as the 15 croreth passenger. She was presented with a certificate of appreciation on the occasion.
Top 3 GoSmart Card Users Honoured
Regular passengers and the highest GoSmart Card users of Lucknow Metro were also felicitated during the programme.

All three passengers were honoured with certificates of appreciation.
A cultural programme was presented by school students during the ceremony held at Hazratganj Metro Station. Students of Lucknow Public School (LPS) presented a play on the theme “From Pushpak to Metro”, showcasing the evolution of transportation from ancient times to the modern metro system in an engaging manner.
On the occasion, UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said that the successful journey of Lucknow Metro over the last nine years is a result of the hard work, dedication and teamwork of UPMRC employees. He said that UPMRC has registered 30% higher passenger fare revenue per passenger, 29% higher income per kilometre and 95% higher non-fare revenue per kilometre. He further highlighted that the 75% higher signalling reliability and improved energy efficiency reflect the operational efficiency and performance of UPMRC.
