Lucknow, August 22 (TNA) The Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Secretariat has taken a firm stance against objectionable, false and baseless comments being made on social media about the Assembly, its Secretariat, officials, staff and the Speaker. Principal Secretary of the Vidhan Sabha, Pradeep Kumar Dubey, issued an official order in this regard on August 21, 2026.
The Matter at Hand
In a letter addressed to the Director of Information, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, the Principal Secretary stated that it had come to notice that baseless, false and unwarranted content about the Vidhan Sabha and its Secretariat was being posted across various social media platforms. The letter clarified that since the Vidhan Sabha is a constitutional institution, making unfounded and false remarks about it, its officials, employees, or constitutional authorities is wholly improper and unlawful.
Action to Follow
The order directs that instructions be sent to the operators of the relevant social media platforms and other concerned parties, stating that if any objectionable, false or baseless content is posted regarding the Vidhan Sabha or its Secretariat, or about its officials, employees, and the Speaker, action will be taken against such content under relevant rules and legal provisions.
The letter further clarifies that any content or comment posted without verification of facts will be deemed unlawful and unauthorised. In such cases, a First Information Report (FIR) may be registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Copies Sent to Other Departments
Copies of the order have also been sent, for information and necessary action, to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home and Information Department, Sanjay Prasad, and to the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, so that appropriate steps can be taken in this regard. The move by the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat is being seen as an effort to protect the dignity of the institution and the reputation of its officials and staff, particularly in light of instances where misleading content was reportedly being circulated on social media without any factual verification.
