UP ANTF Seizes 617 Kg of Illegal Doda Posta Worth ₹1 Crore, One Arrested

SAHARANPUR/LUCKNOW, August 20 (TNA) The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Uttar Pradesh, has arrested an active drug smuggler and recovered 617.700 kilograms of illegal narcotic substance, doda posta (poppy husk), estimated to be worth approximately ₹1 crore, in a joint operation conducted on August 19, 2026.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of the ANTF Sub-Unit, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and ANTF Police Station, Saharanpur, under the guidance of the Director General of Police, UP, the Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), the Additional Director General of Police (Crime), and the Inspector General of Police, ANTF, Lucknow.

The accused was identified as Ahmed, son of Mushir Ahmed, a resident of Mohalla Jogi Navada, under Baradari police station in Bareilly district. He was arrested near Hindon River Bridge on Deoband-Nanauta Road, under Badgaon police station in Saharanpur district. Acting on specific intelligence, the joint team intercepted the accused and recovered the following items from his possession:

617.700 kg of illegal narcotic substance, doda posta, with an estimated value of approximately ₹1 crore
Two Android mobile phones
One Eicher truck
Cash amounting to ₹1,800

A case has been registered at Badgaon police station, Saharanpur, under Case Crime No. 213/2026, invoking Sections 8/15/29/60/61 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal proceedings are underway.

What the Accused Told Investigators

During interrogation, the arrested accused disclosed that he undertook the supply of the illegal narcotic substance on behalf of a person based in Bareilly. On that individual's instructions, he had loaded the consignment of doda post in Ranchi, Jharkhand, disguised under sacks of puffed rice (murmura), and was transporting it for delivery to a designated party. The consignment was reportedly meant to be supplied in large quantities across Bareilly, Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, and the state of Punjab, in exchange for substantial profit, which the accused used to fund his personal indulgences. He was intercepted by police while en route to deliver the consignment.

The Surveillance Team from ANTF Headquarters, Lucknow, led by Head Constable Ajay Kumar, also provided support in the operation; officials informed TNA.
