Sultanpur, October 26 (TNA) A special MP-MLA court in Sultanpur is scheduled to pronounce its verdict on Monday in a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over alleged objectionable remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Raebareli MP, is expected to appear in person before the court. The hearing is scheduled for around 10:30 a.m., according to reports.

The case relates to remarks allegedly made by Gandhi during a 2018 election campaign in Karnataka, when Amit Shah was serving as the BJP’s national president. A complaint was subsequently filed against the Congress leader, and the matter has remained pending for nearly eight years.

Court proceedings

The court had earlier completed the hearing of arguments from both sides. Special Magistrate Shubham Verma fixed October 26 as the date for delivering the judgment after the final submissions were completed on October 13.

Gandhi’s defence counsel, Kashi Prasad Shukla, has confirmed that the Congress leader will be physically present when the verdict is delivered. The complainant’s lawyer has also said that the court directed Gandhi to attend the proceedings in person.

Political interest

The judgment is being closely watched in political circles because of Gandhi’s position as Leader of the Opposition and the case’s connection with the Union Home Minister. The court’s decision could trigger fresh political reactions from both the Congress and the BJP.

Security arrangements have been strengthened around the court complex in anticipation of Gandhi’s appearance and the interest surrounding the verdict. The court’s ruling and any subsequent legal action will determine the next stage of the case.
