Lucknow, September 15 (TNA) A 20-year-old man was killed and his friend critically injured after a truck ran over their motorcycle on Sitapur Road in Lucknow on Tuesday morning, police said.
The accident took place at around 9 a.m. near Titan Dharam Kanta in the Bakshi Ka Talab area. The two men were travelling from the Sitapur side towards Lucknow when the truck, which was following them, allegedly lost control and struck their motorcycle.
One of the victims, identified as Jawahir, son of Chhote Lal and a resident of Bashahri Atriya in the Mall police station area, died at the scene. His friend, Mukesh, son of Jagdish, also 20, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Both men worked as cooks at an engineering college in the Madiyaon area, according to police. Following the crash, local residents chased the truck as the driver attempted to leave the area. The driver eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Police later seized the truck and launched a search for the driver.
The accident caused a long traffic jam on Sitapur Road. Police reached the scene, restored traffic movement and began an investigation. Jawahir’s body was sent for further legal procedures, while officers continued efforts to identify and arrest the absconding driver.
