Noida, September 10 (TNA) In a first for the newly operational Noida International Airport at Jewar, three Russian military aircraft landed at the facility early on Tuesday, marking the airport’s first foreign aircraft arrival as preparations intensify for the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
The planes, including an IL‑76 military transport aircraft, touched down around 5.30 am, carrying a Russian advance team and military officials who are coordinating logistics and security ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s expected visit for the summit. The three aircraft remained parked on the runway through Wednesday, with Russian teams and airport security officials jointly overseeing arrangements around the planes.
The landing is being seen as a significant milestone for the Noida airport, which has so far handled domestic and limited international operations since becoming functional. Historically, foreign military and VIP flights have used Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, making Jewar notable in the run-up to the high-profile diplomatic event.
The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12–13, bringing together leaders of BRICS member countries, partner nations and outreach invitees. Several heads of state and government are expected to attend, with Delhi Police and central security agencies already tightening security across key venues, routes and hotels.
