Prayagraj/Kaushambi, August 31 (TNA) At least 11 people were killed and five others injured after a massive explosion ripped through a firecracker manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district on Monday, officials said. The blast took place in Mohammadpur village under the Pipri police station area, near the Manori power house on the Prayagraj-Kaushambi border.

District officials said the explosion triggered a large rescue operation involving police and fire brigade personnel. Some of the injured were taken to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj, where they later died during treatment, according to officials.

Kaushambi District Magistrate Amit Pal Sharma confirmed the deaths and said the factory blast also left several people injured. Reported casualties included children among the dead, and officials said the injured were being treated at a hospital in Prayagraj.

The exact cause of the explosion is not yet clear, and authorities are expected to investigate safety compliance and licensing at the unit. The incident has raised fresh concerns over firecracker factory safety in the state.
