Lucknow, October 7 (TNA) An IndiGo flight travelling from Patna to Lucknow was struck by lightning at an altitude of around 17,000 feet on Wednesday evening, causing damage to the aircraft’s nose. The pilot safely landed the aircraft at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow.
The incident involved IndiGo flight 6E925, which took off from Patna at around 3:10 pm. The aircraft was scheduled to reach Lucknow at approximately 4:20 pm, but landed safely at around 4:05 pm despite the lightning strike and bad weather.
All passengers and crew members on board were reported safe, and no injuries were reported. Different reports put the number of passengers at 104 and 150, so the final passenger count could not be independently confirmed.
The lightning strike damaged the front section, or nose, of the aircraft. After landing, the aircraft was grounded at Lucknow airport for detailed technical inspection. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was informed about the incident.
Alternate Aircraft Arranged
The aircraft was scheduled to operate another flight from Lucknow to Ahmedabad. However, following the technical issue, IndiGo arranged an alternative aircraft for the passengers travelling to Ahmedabad. The passengers were later flown to their destination after a delay.
Engineers are inspecting the aircraft, and it will be allowed to resume operations only after the required checks and regulatory clearance.
