Lucknow, November 2 (TNA) King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow is preparing to consider disciplinary action against doctors, professors and other staff members named in a Special Task Force report concerning allegations of harassment, coercion and attempted religious conversion on the campus.

The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the university administration to act against the individuals named in the report in accordance with applicable rules. KGMU has scheduled an urgent Executive Council meeting for November 6 to examine the findings and decide the next steps.

Report Names Multiple Staff Members

The seven-page STF report reportedly refers to about 12 individuals, including doctors, professors and nursing or contractual staff. It contains allegations of inappropriate relationships, harassment, threats, pressure to convert and attempts to suppress complaints.

The allegations include claims involving staff members from the pathology, medicine, nursing, microbiology and other departments. However, the allegations are part of an ongoing investigation and have not been established by a court or disciplinary authority.

FIRs Form Basis of Investigation

The STF inquiry followed two FIRs registered in Lucknow in December 2025. One case was registered at Chowk police station against pathology resident doctor Rameez Malik after a complaint by a resident doctor from the department. Another FIR reportedly named resident doctor Mohammad Adil and was registered at Kaisarbagh police station.

According to reports, the complaints included allegations of harassment, blackmail, pressure for religious conversion and coercion into marriage. The STF has also examined claims that some complaints were ignored or that senior personnel attempted to protect the accused.

University to Decide Action

KGMU spokesperson Professor K.K. Singh confirmed that the university had received the STF report. He said the Executive Council would examine the report before deciding on further action.

Possible measures could include departmental inquiries, changes in administrative responsibilities and action under university service rules. The university may also decide whether officials named in the report should continue in leadership positions while the inquiry is pending.

Due Process Stressed

The allegations include serious claims against named individuals, but the available reports do not establish that every person mentioned in the STF document has been accused of the same conduct. Some names are reportedly included because of alleged supervisory failures, protection of colleagues or links to the wider investigation.

The accused persons will be entitled to respond during the disciplinary process. Any criminal liability will be determined by the courts, while the university’s Executive Council is expected to decide the administrative and departmental steps after reviewing the report.
