Jhansi, October 18 (TNA) A court in Jhansi has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant in connection with a 16-year-old case linked to her reality television show Rakhi Ka Insaaf, officials said.

The warrant was issued after Sawant repeatedly failed to appear before the court during the ongoing proceedings. The CAW Fast Track Court directed the police to execute the warrant and produce her before the court on December 1.

The case relates to Laxman Prasad Ahirwar, a 24-year-old resident of Jhansi’s Hansari-Prem Nagar area. According to the prosecution, Ahirwar appeared on Rakhi Ka Insaaf in 2010, where he was allegedly subjected to humiliating and abusive remarks, including being called “impotent”.

Ahirwar died by suicide on November 10, 2010, following the television appearance, according to the case records and reports. His mother, Savitri Devi, later filed a complaint alleging that the public humiliation had caused him severe mental distress.

The case was registered at Prem Nagar police station and involves allegations related to abetment to suicide. The allegations are yet to be proved in court, and the issuance of a warrant does not constitute a finding of guilt.

District Government Counsel Mridul Kant Srivastava said Sawant would have to appear before the court and seek bail in accordance with the law. The next hearing has been scheduled for December 1.

The case has returned to the spotlight more than a decade after the programme was broadcast, renewing debate over public humiliation and accountability in reality television.
