Lucknow, October 6 (TNA) A major fire broke out at a makeshift labour camp outside Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow on Tuesday morning, triggering panic in the area. The fire reportedly started around 6:50 a.m. at a three-storey labour colony located nearly 800 metres from the airport. The camp, built with PVC panels, housed workers engaged in ongoing airport development projects.
The blaze spread rapidly through the combustible structure and engulfed the camp within minutes. Thick smoke and flames were visible from a considerable distance, prompting an immediate evacuation. Around 500 workers were evacuated from the camp. At least two workers sustained injuries during the evacuation and were provided medical assistance.
Fire teams from the airport and the Lucknow Fire Department reached the spot and brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes. The fire did not spread to nearby areas or affect airport operations, according to preliminary reports.
Initial information suggested that the fire may have started while workers were preparing food using LPG cylinders, though officials have not yet confirmed the cause. A detailed investigation and assessment of the damage are underway.
