Badaun tense after stone-pelting over Ambedkar statue row, several police personnel injured

Badaun, August 25 (TNA) Tension gripped a village in Budaun district on Tuesday evening after a dispute broke out over the installation of a Dr B.R. Ambedkar statue in the Faizganj Behta police station area. The situation escalated quickly when a crowd gathered at the spot and began pelting stones at police personnel after a heated exchange with the officers.

According to reports, the clash began around 7:30 pm in Sikri village, where some people were trying to install the statue on gram sabha land without permission. Police rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control, but the crowd turned aggressive and attacked the police team with stones.

In the violence, several police personnel, including a Circle Officer, were injured, while a constable also sustained a head injury. The attackers allegedly damaged around four police vehicles and also vandalised an ambulance during the unrest.

Following the incident, additional police force was rushed to the area, and senior officers reached the spot to restore order. Security has been tightened in the locality as police continue their investigation and are identifying those involved in the violence for further action.

The incident has left the area tense, with authorities maintaining a heavy deployment to prevent any fresh flare-up. Police officials said they are examining the sequence of events and preparing action against the miscreants.
