Nagoya, October 23 (TNA) India has recorded its best-ever performance at a single edition of the Asian Para Games, winning 114 medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games. The Indian contingent finished the campaign with 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals, placing fourth in the overall medal table. The tally is six medals higher than India’s previous best of 108 at the Hangzhou Games, according to the latest competition reports.

India’s performance has exceeded expectations, particularly because the country sent a smaller contingent to Aichi-Nagoya. About 168 Indian para-athletes participated this time, compared with 309 athletes at the Hangzhou edition.

Strong showing across sports

Indian athletes produced notable results in para archery and other disciplines. Archer Sheetal Devi won the women’s compound individual gold after defeating Singapore’s Nur Syahidah Alim 142-139, taking India’s gold-medal tally to 17 at that stage of the competition.

The Games featured athletes from 45 National Paralympic Committees competing across 18 para-sport disciplines. India’s participation marked its fifth appearance at the Asian Para Games. India had previously won 14 medals in 2010, 33 in 2014, 72 in 2018 and 111 medals at the Hangzhou Games, including 29 gold medals.

Boost for Paralympic sport

The record haul strengthens India’s growing presence in Asian para-sport and provides momentum for the country’s longer-term preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic cycle. The performance also highlights the contribution of India’s para-athletes across established and emerging events.

Officials and sports administrators welcomed the achievement as evidence of the progress made in athlete preparation, coaching and support systems. India’s 114-medal campaign is now the country’s most successful outing at the continental para-sport event.
