Kolkata, October 12 (TNA) The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a “drop box” initiative to invite applications from professionals and prominent citizens interested in contesting the upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections.

Union Minister and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar said the party wants to bring people from different sections of society into electoral politics to give Kolkata a clean, efficient municipal administration. Doctors, engineers, legal practitioners, journalists, social workers and other citizens with a clean public image have been encouraged to apply.

Interested applicants can submit their biodata directly to the drop box at the BJP’s old state headquarters at 6, Muralidhar Sen Lane, central Kolkata. The facility will be available from Monday during the office’s working hours.

Majumdar said the initiative was aimed at identifying capable candidates beyond the party’s organisational structure and political workers. He appealed to eminent citizens and young people not to remain mere spectators but to participate in the city’s civic administration.

The BJP is preparing to contest all 209 wards in the upcoming KMC elections, which are expected to be held by the end of the year. The party said the applications would be reviewed before candidates are finalised.
Majumdar is leading a four-member committee overseeing the BJP’s preparations for the civic polls. The party said it would focus on candidates who understand local civic issues and have the ability to improve public services in Kolkata.
