Aligarh, October 14 (TNA) In a move aimed at reducing disputes and allegations during anti-encroachment drives, the Aligarh Municipal Corporation has equipped all 28 members of its enforcement team with body-worn cameras.

Municipal Commissioner Prem Prakash Meena, IAS, introduced the initiative to ensure that enforcement operations are recorded and conducted in a more transparent, impartial and accountable manner. His official X profile identifies him as the Municipal Commissioner of Aligarh.

The cameras will be worn on the chest by enforcement personnel during encroachment-removal drives and other field operations. The recordings are expected to provide an objective account of interactions between civic officials, traders, residents and other members of the public.

Municipal officials said the initiative would help address allegations and counter-allegations that frequently arise during enforcement action. Recorded footage can also assist authorities in verifying complaints, reviewing the conduct of personnel and establishing facts in case of disputes.

The move is intended to make civic enforcement more accessible and orderly while protecting both municipal employees and members of the public. Similar body-camera systems have been introduced by other civic bodies to create a digital record of field operations and strengthen public confidence.

The cameras are expected to be used during anti-encroachment drives, inspections and other enforcement-related activities. The municipal corporation has indicated that the footage will support fair and evidence-based action.

The initiative has been launched under the broader Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign. It is expected to improve monitoring of enforcement operations and reduce confrontational situations during the removal of unauthorised encroachments.
