Agartala, August 23 (TNA) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday said that the state government has taken immediate rescue and relief measures in the waterlogged areas of Agartala following heavy overnight rainfall. He said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of residents.

Heavy rainfall in the Baramura hills overnight led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas of Agartala city and its adjoining areas. Bhaldakhal, Chandrapur, Srilankan Basti and Katakhal were among the areas affected.

As the day progressed, the situation improved in several places. The administration has intensified monitoring and rescue operations in the affected areas. Boats have been kept ready to evacuate residents to safer locations, if required. Several relief camps have also been opened.

West Tripura District Magistrate Dr Bishal Kumar, along with senior administrative officials, today visited various waterlogged areas, including Bhaldakhal and Chandrapur, to assess the situation on the ground.

Waterlogging in parts of the Chandrapur area of the National Highway temporarily disrupted vehicular movement. However, the District Magistrate said the situation is being closely monitored. The administration said that, so far, there have been no reports of loss of life or major damage to property.
