JAMMU, August 20 (TNA) The Ministry of Defence has cleared the transfer of 147 kanals and 11 marlas of land at Rakh Bahu to the University of Jammu through a land exchange with the Jammu and Kashmir administration, bringing an end to a 53-year-old pending issue.
To express gratitude for the development, a delegation of Heads of Departments, faculty members and office-bearers of the University of Jammu, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of the University. The delegation discussed matters related to the institution's growth, development, and future academic expansion.
During the interaction, the delegation thanked the Lieutenant Governor for his intervention in securing the transfer of the land from the Defence authorities to the University campus.
The University fraternity described the development as a watershed moment, saying the resolution of the decades-old issue had fulfilled a long-cherished aspiration. The additional land will expand the University’s campus footprint and pave the way for academic expansion, research and innovation infrastructure, besides meeting other institutional requirements.
The delegation also appreciated Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s vision to develop the University of Jammu into a globally competitive institution aligned with national educational goals.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasised the need to continuously raise standards in teaching and research, promote innovation and ensure that the University makes meaningful contributions to society and the nation.
