New Delhi, October 27 (TNA) The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other respondents on a plea alleging that he pushed a pregnant journalist during a march towards the court on October 12.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi sought responses after the matter was mentioned by senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia.

Allegations in Plea

According to the application, the journalist was allegedly pushed towards a gate in a crowded area inside the Supreme Court premises. The plea claims that she lost her balance and had to use her hands to prevent herself from falling.

The petitioner has alleged that the incident was not ordinary crowd movement and took place in the presence of security personnel, journalists and other people. The allegations have not been established by the court and remain subject to adjudication.

FIR and Compensation Sought

The plea seeks directions for the immediate registration of an FIR against Gandhi and others allegedly involved in the incident. It also seeks compensation for the journalist. The application was filed in a pending matter before the Supreme Court. The case will proceed after the respondents submit their replies to the notice issued by the bench.

The court’s notice does not amount to a finding of guilt, and no final decision has been taken on the allegations. Further proceedings will determine whether any investigation or other legal action is warranted.
