Birbhum, September 1 (TNA) Bristy Mukherjee, the niece of TMC chief and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, was found hanging at her home in Kusumba village in Birbhum district on Tuesday, police said.

The body of the 28-year-old was recovered from a room on the second floor of the house in the Rampurhat area. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and begun an investigation.

According to family members, Mukherjee had been suffering from depression for the past few years and was under treatment. Reports also said she had lost her job following the court action linked to the state’s teacher recruitment scam.

Authorities have registered a case of unnatural death, and the exact circumstances leading to her death are being probed.
