Mumbai, September 1 (TNA) The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a series of policy and infrastructure proposals, including a whole-of-government policy to eradicate drugs across the state by 2029 under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, approved major decisions across the home, public works, water resources, and public health sectors.
Anti-drug policy by 2029
The Cabinet adopted a comprehensive “Whole-of-Government Approach” to eliminate illicit narcotics from the state over the next three years. The home department policy focuses on:
• Strengthening multi-agency intelligence and law-enforcement coordination
• Launching statewide anti-narcotics awareness campaigns
• Expanding rehabilitation support and preventive measures
₹5,704-crore outlay for irrigation
The Cabinet sanctioned a revised administrative estimate of ₹5,704.50 crore for the Kukadi Irrigation Project in Pune district. The project is designed to provide irrigation coverage to approximately 1,44,912 hectares of agricultural land across the region.
Solapur highway elevated corridor
An elevated corridor project on National Highway 65 between Old Pune Naka and Boramani Naka in Solapur city was designated as an urgent public project. This declaration clears the transfer of required state land to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to accelerate construction.
Healthy food mandate in offices
The Cabinet approved a health-focused nutrition policy making balanced, nutritious menus mandatory during government and semi-government meetings, public events, and administrative office canteens.
Temporary relief for loose oil
The state government also announced a one-year temporary exemption from the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) prohibition on selling loose edible oil. The decision follows representations from traditional oil merchants and small traders, with authorities clarifying that no further extensions will be granted once the transition period ends.
