Ara (Bhojpur, Bihar), September 6 (TNA) The 15483 Alipurduar Junction–Delhi Mahananda Express derailed near Ara on Sunday around 4 am. Railway officials said the engine, SLR and H-1 coach went off the track, though an official statement later clarified that “one wheel of a coach had come off the rail”.
The incident took place on the Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya–Danapur rail section. Panic spread among railway staff and passengers immediately after the derailment, but officials and staff rushed to the spot and began relief and rescue operations. The railway said no one was injured in the mishap.
Train resumes after 3.5 hours; repair work underway
Nearly three-and-a-half hours after the derailment, the Mahananda Express was flagged off again. Work to repair the derailed coaches and restore the track fully was continuing at the site.
In connection with the incident, Ara station manager N K Rai has been suspended. The railway has ordered an inquiry into the cause of the derailment and initiated proceedings to fix responsibility.
Delhi-Howrah route hit, several trains delayed
The derailment disrupted traffic on the busy Delhi-Howrah main line. Trains including Vande Bharat, Vibhuti Express, Gandhi Dham, Capital Express, Intercity, Garib Rath, passenger services and Udhna Express were reported to be running late. Passengers have been advised to check live train status on the railway app/website and helpline for updated information.
